So I finished GWitch and absolutely loved it. Coinedentally, I had seen some people talking about building gunpla so it was on the mind, and I figured I'd give it a shot. And it was great and I love it!
Figuring out what set and whatever was pretty easy, I only had some minor issues, just in like, finding the exact model I wanted. Gundam Aerial has some High Grade kits, and a Full Mechanics one. I didn't want to get into painting, so I picked the Full Mechanincs. It has a bit more detail, so I thought that would make up for me not wanting to paint. It's also a bit bigger, it's 1/100 instead of 1/144, so I figured it'd display a little bit better. And al final, she does look pretty good!
In general, I really like the process. It's pretty relaxing, just going bit by bit, it's a little like more-involved-lego. Locating is easy, but then you have to separate the part from the runner and do nub removal. I don't like that very much, and I'm not great at it. TBH I haven't gotten to the point that my nubs actually look good. Most of them are hidden from normal view, so it's not a problem just looking at it, but inspecting it, changing my posing, then you'll see nubs. Part of that is that I don't have great tools, my intent was for this to be a one-time purchase, and just build the one kit, so I got basically the bare minimum to put it together. And it did get put together, just not perfectly. I'm not great at sanding either, I don't how much is too much but I get scared and do too little lol. I nearly really goofed a couple of pieces building. Pulling the nubs off, I did a couple of them poorly, and snapped the piece. One of them was really easy to glue together, but the other was the center of the victory horns. They... fit on the face now with some glue, but they do fall off if you bump it. It's the center of the face, so I got really flustered and impatient. It was late, but I wanted to finish that section, so I brute forced the rest of that night... and immediately dropped the chin piece. I couldn't find it, and eventually dumped out my trash can and sorted though it, and I did find the piece. Not fun, but it worked out in the end.
But she's all together! I found posing to be a bit tricky, the kit has plenty of flexibility, but I just kinda picked one pose that's cool and haven't dared budge it lol. I had issues finding a base to get it to work though. That's just an inexperience thing, I had to make the mistake of lwhich action base was which, and this being a Full Mechanics kit, it's a bit weird on scale. The kit is 1/144, but if you want to display the GUDN-Bits (which I do, look at how cool they look), you want an action base that's compatilby with 1/100 stuff, because I think the bits fit that scale? I don't really know to be honest, and I could've asked, but then I wouldn've had to have someone who I know to ask, and I don't. Shoulda gone to Reddit, but now I have some extra bases to fill.
And I will! I had a ton of fun building it, and at the end, I did find myself really wanting to paint it. I've got the stickers on it now, so it's be work to do this one. But I now have a kit I don't know or care about and am willing to absolutely goof up. I'm working on it, much slower than this one, so we'll see if I actually ever end up painting it. I want to though, and I hope I do. Since I don't know the kit, I'm finding it harder to build it, since I find having a relationship with the suit to be such a motivating factor. But it is enjoyable in and of itself, so I would recommend it if you think it'd be fun.
She lives on top of my desktop now, and she looks lovely :) There are lesbians in there!
